Paanpasal featured video “the beholder”

From the director, “The beholder is a short film about a mentally unstable girl who sees beauty in whatever she is and is experiencing. Despite not appreciated for being an anomaly, she is an optimist and perceives her life as being worth living rather than hating it.”

SAVING DOLMA

She was forced to work in two or three houses and she was beaten as well,” says the relative of one Nepalese woman who was killed after she relocated to Lebanon in search of a better life. “So she asked the agent to send her home and the agent asked for money…we were told, ‘You’ll see your woman in a coffin.’”

On August 25 a Nepalese shepherd terminated his life inside a livestock pen in Kabad.
On September 14, a Nepali maid ended her life by hanging in her sponsor’s house in al-Zahr.
NEPAL, being one of the least developed countries in this world with no employment opportunities to offer to its citizen, every year the number of people migrating abroad in search of better livelihood has been increasing rampantly. It is estimated that Nepalese migrants send remittances equivalent to about one quarter of Nepal’s gross national product.
Everyday, bodies of one or two Nepalese migrant are flown to Kathmandu. Most of these migrant workers are from the rural parts of Nepal with little education or vocational training. They struggle to cross the border lines with the dream of handsome income but only to find themselves trafficked into slavery and dehumanizing treatments. The above highlighted statements are just few examples of what these Nepalese migrant went through in the process. There are probably many more migrant voices screaming for help and longing for humane treatment.
On November 2nd 2011, PaanPasal attended ” Saving Dolma” Film Screening organized by the Nepal and Bhutan Initiatives and the International Migration Initiative of the Open Society Foundations in New York. This documentary ”Saving Dolma” , produced and directed by Kesang Tseten examines the issues faced by Nepalese migrant workers , especially the domestic workers. As the film progresses, it makes everyone ponder about the negligence of Nepalese government for such issues.
